Season 06: Campfires on the road
Travelling people are the protagonists of this sixth season of Mythical Beings. Five new creatures, each from a different continent, evoked by the imagination of people used to living on the road, protected from the darkness and hostility of their surroundings by the strength of family ties and the warmth of campfires at night. This season is a tribute to the nomadic peoples who have managed to create wonderful mythological geographies without having to settle down on any particular part of the planet.
Season 5 saw the end of the first phase of Mythical Beings, which saw the searchers discover 50 cryptozoological species, ten on each continent. It was a wonderful adventure that brought together a great team of enthusiasts and forged a brave, united and supportive community of pioneers. The complete collection of creatures hangs proudly on the walls of each participant, as a testament to their commitment to cultural diversity. Bravo to you all!
After this first phase, the community went into hiding to organise and plan the next step. Since March, cryptozoology has been silent, with no expeditions or new sightings, but it hasn’t been idle: a new, more ambitious plan has been quietly prepared. Now, in the autumn of 2023, the work will be unveiled and the adventurers will once again enter the forest.
Five new Beings
This season, “Campfires on the Road”, we pay homage to the nomadic spirit, a thread that weaves together different cultures on five continents. Rooted in different circumstances — whether it was a chosen way of life or the impulse of persecution — they have shared the experience of a wandering life from generation to generation. For some, like the Gypsies and the Hadza, the road has been a lifelong companion, an elemental aspect of their being. For others, like the Jews, the rhythms of nomadism became intertwined with urban life, adapting to the ups and downs of the cities while carrying in their stories the essence of a past of travelling. Despite different trajectories, each culture forged its own mythology along the way: narratives shaped by footsteps and whispered through generations, a testament to the resilience and adaptability of the human spirit. Each card in our collection embodies these diverse journeys, a tribute to the nomadic heart and the myths it has spawned in its various wanderings.
And a new way to get involved
Not only have the goals been expanded, but so has the method of searching. Adventurers will find themselves with new equipment, with a new design that matches the beauty of the myths we will encounter on our expeditions. Under the artistic direction of Ana Santiso, the wallet itself is now a work of art in its own right.
The dynamics of the game have also changed. A dedicated blog post will give you all the details of a simple but increasingly rich mechanic, with more playable elements that open up opportunities for collaboration between members of the collector community, as well as opening the doors of Mythical Beings wide to users of the Polygon and Ethereum communities.
